Interfolk arranged a 3-day Erasmus+ training course, May 2024 for a group of 8 Hungarian NGOs from the Folk High School Association Surrounding Budapest.

The course title was: "Good practice of Danish NGOs providing community work and lifelong learning".

Interfolk had collaborated with the Folk High School Association before in two Erasmus+ development projects, and they had also been host and course provider for the 3-day course in Szentendre (HU), June 2022, where Interfolk a part of the BRIDGES mobility project did send a group of 7 Danish NGOs.

Background and learning objectives

The aim of the Folk High School Association is to offer liberal education of the population living in the countryside, mainly engaged in agricultural activities, to promote the Hungarian consciousness and the need for self-education.

The overall aim for this training course is to promote organizational development for a civil society association that provides lifelong learning activities on the countryside,

  • by examined and showing how voluntary work is imperative for many cultural and liberal adult education associations and for the services they can offer to the local communities,
  • especially those that works at the countryside with fewer cultural and educational institutions with public support.

Course activities

The group of participants stayed at Musisk Center Askov and they got the main meals at Askov Folk High School, and we also rented lesson rooms here and as an extra bonus, they could experience daily school activities both at the Folk high School for adults and at the Afterschool for young people.

However, the main part of the programme was made up of excursions to other cultural NGOs and public culture institutions in Jutland and Fynen to gain insights in good practice examples.

Outcome

Both the sending organisation and Interfolk as host were very satisfied  with the course and mutual contacts, and we hope to make follow-up activities, both where Interfolk sends a new group og NGOs to a course in Hungary and likewise that the Hungarian association will have other courses in Denmark with Interfolk as course provider. Renewed  cooperation in European development project may also be possible.
